Sources for Seeds and Plants

All of the companies listed here are ones that I have done and continue to do business with.
All of them are reliable seed sources with good environmentally sound practices and several are extremely charitable as well.
One of them, Reneeā€™s Garden Seeds is local here on the California Central Coast and has long been a favorite of mine.
Happy planting!

Native Seed Search

“A nonprofit seed conservation organization based in Tucson, Arizona. Our mission is to conserve and promote the arid-adapted crop diversity of the Southwest in support of sustainable farming and food security. Native Seeds/SEARCH seeks to find, protect and preserve the seeds of the people of the Greater Southwest so that these arid-adapted crops may benefit all peoples and nourish a changing world.”

Seed Savers Exchange

“We conserve and promote America’s culturally diverse but endangered garden and food crop heritage for future generations by collecting, growing, and sharing heirloom seeds and plants.”

Renee’s Garden

“I offer only non-GMO varieties that are very special for home gardeners, based on great flavor, easy culture, and exceptional garden performance. This seed line is my personal selection of new, exciting, and unusual seed choices of time-tested heirlooms, certified organic seeds, the best international hybrids, and fine open-pollinated varieties.
I harvest and use the vegetables and herbs in my kitchen to choose the most delicious and cut the flowers for bouquets to select the finest colors, forms, and fragrances. Our varieties are tested and guaranteed for every major US climate zone

Botanical Interests

“Our goal is to inspire and educate the gardener in you. That is why, since 1995 we have been supplying garden centers and home gardeners with the highest quality seed in the most beautiful and informative seed packets on the market. Curtis and Judy started Botanical Interests because they believed that gardeners were not getting the information they needed on seed packets. Their desire to provide more information led them to create a unique seed packet that includes art, garden history, landscape ideas, organic gardening know-how, recipes, fun facts, and of course, high-quality seed.”

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds

“Our mission is to provide the seeds of a sustainable food supply for everyone and keep heirloom varieties alive for future generations.  We believe that farmers, gardeners, and communities have the right to save their own seed, and in so doing preserve seed diversity and food security in an age of corporate agriculture and patented hybridized or genetically modified seeds. All the seeds we sell can be saved, shared, and traded, and we encourage people to save their own seeds.”
“Charitable giving is a foundation of our business. Working with non-profit organizations, a significant portion of our annual profits goes toward providing food, emergency aid, sustainable development, and education to people in the U.S. and abroad. We also provide free seeds to hundreds of community and educational groups each year, because we believe that everyone should have access to nutrient-dense, delicious food, season after season.”

Kitazawa Seed Company

“The oldest seed company in America specializing in Asian vegetable seeds.”
“We offer over 500 seed varieties that produce “dento yasai” or traditional heirloom vegetables of Japan, to the Asian vegetables popularly found in farmers’ markets, specialty grocery stores, and restaurants. Now you can grow them in your kitchen garden, sell them at your garden center and grow them commercially.”
